PHYSICAL THERAPY
Sports/Relaxation Massage
Massage can help relieve pain by relaxing muscles, tendons, and joints. It can also help stimulate nerve fibres to compete with pain messages, which may help reduce pain. Massage can help improve circulation by allowing blood to flow more easily through the body. It can help improve skin tone by releasing tension from the body. It can help boost the immune system by increasing the activity of "killer T cells" that fight off viruses. It can also help improve the lymphatic system, which helps remove toxins and waste products. Massage can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also help increase levels of dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins, which are neurotransmitters that contribute to feelings of happiness. Massage can help improve flexibility and range of motion. It can help improve the quality of sleep.
Myofascial Dry Cupping
Cupping is a technique used in conjunction with massage therapy. Cupping pulls blood to a region to stimulate healing. Initially dry cupping pulls blood into an area. The tissue becomes saturated with fresh blood, while the vacuum pulls stagnant blood out of the area. This is demonstrated by the hickey like appearance that is typically left behind. The mark may have a red/black appearance but is generally painless. This process forces the body to begin to develop new blood vessels, which have the capacity to feed the tissues with nutrients and oxygen. Sterile inflammation is also produced during this time, which promotes healing. Dry cupping is also effective at stretching tight fascia and muscles.
Hot stones for relaxation or sport
Hot stone massage can help with relaxation due to the stones ability to retain heat and to allow the therapist to apply both heat and pressure to the body, so that muscular related tension is eased. The heat produces endorphins, which open blood vessels leading to increased blood circulation, increased lymph flow allowing toxins and waste products to flush out, whilst reducing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) caused by sport or exercise. The benefits you can potentially get from this type of therapy are pain relief, improved circulation, stress relief, improved flexibility, better sleep, reduced inflammation, improved immune system, increased metabolism and release of toxins.
